Maybe you have a blog already with a Hire Me page, hoping to land your ideal client.
New freelance writers are often told to guest post as a way to build their portfolio.
After all, if someone else thinks you’re good enough to write on their blog, then surely a prospective client will think you’d be good for their company too.
Most guest posting is a free writing opportunity. You are giving away your best content for free!

Are you a freelance writer in your first or second year?
I’ve been a freelance writer for five years now and have been going through the Christmas holidays for a few years now.
While I usually pick up client work in December, when the holidays are officially over, I get stuck on “vacation mode.”
I’ve been a freelance writer for a little over a year and I recently posted my goals for my business.
I’m pretty private with my goals. My husband is the only one who knows my business goals and personal goals. I’m definitely not a blabber.
But, this past summer I was ecstatic to take my business to the next level and I wanted to include my readers in on my journey.
December can be a slow month for many freelance writers.
Bloggers, entrepreneurs and companies slow down for the holidays, leaving many freelance writers with very little work.
This isn’t always the case though. My last December turned out to be a great month for my business. I landed a couple of freelance writing jobs and had consistent writing all month long.
For many new freelance writers, landing a client and earning consistent pay is a top priority (even for seasoned writers too!).
The life of a freelance writer isn’t always predictable and to make it longer than 6 months freelancing, you need to have a solid plan to earn more writing.
Sometimes that can mean re-evaluating your pitching process and coming up with better way to pitch.
